Wiper Party Unveils Munyoki Mwangangi as Migwani Ward MCA By-Election Candidate

Nairobi, Kenya | October 13, 2026 — Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) has unveiled Munyoki Mwangangi as its candidate for the Migwani Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) by-election, with the party expressing confidence in securing a decisive victory ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Mwangangi was presented with his nomination certificate by the Chairperson of the party’s National Elections Board (NEB), Ms Agatha Solitei, during a ceremony held at the Wiper Patriotic Front headquarters. The event was presided over and witnessed by the party’s National Chairperson, Hon. Jamleck Kamau.

Speaking during the ceremony, Mwangangi commended the NEB for conducting what he described as free, fair and credible nominations, saying the exercise demonstrated Wiper’s commitment to internal democracy.

He urged prospective aspirants not to fear contesting for the party’s ticket in future elections, assuring them that the nomination process would remain transparent.

“Wiper imekuwa Wiper ingine. Through my experience, I can assure you that the nominations next year will also be fair. No one should fear coming forward to contest for a Wiper ticket,” Mwangangi said.

The newly nominated candidate pledged to work closely with party officials and grassroots supporters to deliver a landslide victory in the Migwani Ward by-election, projecting that Wiper would secure approximately 95 per cent of the vote.

Mwangangi Vows to Deliver Victory for Kalonzo

Mwangangi maintained that winning the Migwani Ward seat would not be a personal achievement but a victory for Wiper and its party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka.

“This seat will not be mine; it will belong to Wiper and our party leader, Dr Kalonzo Musyoka. As we prepare for next year’s General Election, we are looking at the bigger picture, which is taking His Excellency Dr Kalonzo Musyoka to State House,” he said.

He described the upcoming by-election as an important test of Wiper’s political strength ahead of the 2027 General Election, pledging to lead an energetic campaign and mobilise supporters to secure a convincing win.

Mwangangi also assured Migwani residents that he would take an active role in the campaign, expressing confidence that the party would emerge victorious.

Using a metaphor to illustrate the responsibility that comes with receiving the party’s nomination, he compared his relationship with Wiper members to a pregnancy that would culminate in the birth of a political victory.

“Hii ni kama kuwekwa mimba na Wiper members. Nitawazalia mtoto mzuri na mkakamavu. Tarehe kumi na saba next month, mtoto atazaliwa na ataitwa Wiper,” he said.

The candidate also acknowledged the other aspirants who contested for the Wiper ticket, thanking them for attending the ceremony and urging them to rally behind his candidacy.

He insisted that his victory in the nominations did not make the other contestants losers, describing them as equally important party members whose support would be crucial in the upcoming by-election.

“Ushindi wangu haukumaanisha kwamba nyinyi si washindi. Nyinyi pia ni washindi. Nilikuwa nimesema kwamba kama singepata cheti cha uteuzi, ningesimama na yule ambaye angepewa cheti hicho,” he said.

Mwangangi pledged to work with the former aspirants, saying their collective efforts would strengthen Wiper’s campaign and improve its chances of winning the seat.

The appeal for unity comes as political parties begin consolidating their grassroots support ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the Migwani Ward contest expected to test Wiper’s mobilisation capacity in the area.

Meanwhile, Wiper Organising Secretary Robert Mbui accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of orchestrating the Migwani Ward by-election, alleging that the government had been devoting considerable attention to the region.

The Migwani Ward MCA seat fell vacant after the immediate former officeholder was appointed as a clerk at the Kitui County Assembly, paving the way for the by-election.

Mbui criticised the former MCA for leaving the elective position to take up an appointment at the county assembly, arguing that the move had led to the vacancy and the subsequent by-election.

He further alleged that the development was part of a broader political strategy by the Kenya Kwanza administration to challenge Wiper’s influence in the region.

“We are ready for them,” Mbui said, warning the ruling coalition against using financial resources to sway voters in the upcoming contest.

He said Wiper was prepared to face its political opponents and would remain vigilant against any attempts to undermine the electoral process through voter influence.

Mwangangi to Face UDA, NLP and NEDP Candidates

With his nomination confirmed, Mwangangi is set to face Andrew Kaleli of the National Liberal Party (NLP) and Hon. Christine Mwende of the National Economic Development Party (NEDP), led by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is also expected to unveil its candidate ahead of the Migwani Ward MCA by-election scheduled for November 17, 2026.
